Fun With Water

We all know how important water is to achieving and maintaing our fitness goals. Water is essential for fat loss and building muscle. It is also essential for brain function (your brain is 85% water!) and all kinds of imune functions! However, sometimes it can feel like a chore to throw back glass after glass of water.

What can we do to make water more interesting?

Well you could buy bottle after bottle of flavoured water which is often sweetened with aspartame, and contains a bunch of cool stuff that isn't cool for your body.

You could just drink the water. Plain old water.

Or, you can put stuff in it!

Now, I know that putting stuff in your water isn't a groundbreaking discovery. But, it is something that I started doing a few months ago to really ensure I was drinking more than enough water.

What kinds of things could you put in your water? Well, you can really go crazy with fruits and vegetables if you want. But, I usually end up sticking with the same delicious recipe.

What I use is:
  • Fresh lemon
  • Fresh Cucumber
  • Fresh ginger root

What I do with them is simple. I wash them all very well, then cut the lemon and cucumber into slices and toss them in a glass or jar. Then I cut a thin slice of the ginger root and toss that in too (you could grate some in if you want too). I usually use a mason jar (as in photo below) because I can toss a lid on it and give it a light shake to get the flavours mingling.

Another great combination is lemon, lime and fresh mint!

If you plan on entertaining you can also toss all of the ingredients into a glass pitcher!

Now Isn't that an easy way to funk up your water? I can't wait until the snow melts off of my deck so I can go out and enjoy one of these on a nice afternoon or evening! One of these would go great with one of my turkey and roasted eggplant burgers

I hope the rest of your day is a great one,

Peace out
