A lot of people come to me and tell me they can throw together great healthy meals, but really struggle with snacking between them. They find themselves snacking on easy foods like chips, candy, breads etc. I have some very easy tips to help you stray away from those nasty treats, and keep eating clean between meals.
- Don't buy junkfood! This seems like a stupidly obvious one. But, the truth is a lot of people buy treats for themselves thinking they can eat them in moderation, and fail miserably. So, Just don't buy them. You can treat yourself every once in a while, but don't keep treats in the house.
- Be prepared. In the photo above you see some broccoli in a tupperware container. I wash and cut my broccoli as soon as I get it home. This saves me a lot of time when I cook with it, as well as makes for a great quick snack to grab. I also do the same with carrots (or buy the pre-cut baby ones), cauliflower, and celery (I put the celery in a bowl with water to keep it crisp).
- Eat nuts, but don't go nuts. Nuts are great for a snack between meals. They really curb your apetite. Want to know why? Because they're full of fat. So in your small handfull of nuts, you're really consuming a large number of calories. So be mindful of this when snacking on nuts. They do provide you with some great fats that your body will thank you for, but they will come back to haunt you if you go overboard.
- Eat several small meals. I eat six smaller meals a day. Eating many small meals makes for less snack time. I find I snack a lot less when I eat like this. In fact, I have been eating this frequently for the past three years and I can't imagine stoping.
I hope these tips are of use to you!
